Woman faces prison for posting revenge porn in Louisiana

Imagine seeing an image someone sent your spouse: It’s nude, it’s rude and it’s upsetting. You might want to get revenge by posting those images online and pointing out the person affecting your marriage or relationship, but that’s a bad idea. It’s a crime to do so in Louisiana.

A woman from the Lower 9th Ward has been booked on a charge for revenge porn, according to a March 7 news release. The woman is directly accused of publicly posting nude photographs of a romantic rival to humiliate her. If the woman is found guilty of the charges, she faces up to two years in prison thanks to Louisiana’s laws.

The 26-year-old woman was arrested on March 2 by the police in New Orleans. The specific charge is for non-consensual disclosure of a private image, an act made illegal in 2015 by state legislators. The 26-year-old woman had posted the image of the woman in retaliation for sending nudes to a man who was arrested. The man and the 26-year-old woman have a 7-month-old child together, but it’s not clear if they were in a relationship.

The woman reportedly looked at images on the phone and then sent out the nude photographs on social media. The images were of a 21-year-old woman who had been dating the man for around a month, according to police. The 26-year-old woman also is said to have sent threatening messages to the younger woman across at least five pages of Instagram messages.

As laws change, the potential to get into trouble for things that used to be legal grows. It’s never okay to put up images of someone who is nude without permission, particularly in cases of retaliation. If you’re accused of doing something like this, it’s vital that you defend yourself from the moment of the accusation, so you can protect your reputation.
